Water security
water that arrives, and floods that do not destroy
Proposes carrying out water works in the Northeast, such as the Apodi and Salgado branches, the Seridó Water Main and the Xingó Canal, and expanding infrastructure to prevent extreme climate events.
What the program says
For millions of Brazilians, especially in the Northeast, water is still a daily uncertainty, and every rainy season many other families lose everything in floods and landslides. We have already shown that we know how to solve this. The Northern Axis of the Transposição do Rio São Francisco (the São Francisco river diversion project) was completed under the Bolsonaro government, and the waters of the Velho Chico (the São Francisco river) finally reached Ceará, Paraíba and Rio Grande do Norte, bringing water security to millions of northeasterners. We will bring back that same efficiency to move forward with the next works. We will complete, start, carry out structures such as the Apodi Branch, the Salgado Branch, the Seridó Water Main, the Xingó Canal, the Piancó Branch, the Sertão Canals of Bahia, Piauí and Alagoas, the CAC (the Ceará Water Belt) and the duplication of Ceará’s Eixão das Águas, without the abandonment of works that marked previous administrations. And we will expand infrastructure to prevent extreme climate events, with multiple-use dams, flood-control reservoirs, dikes, canals and drainage and macro-drainage works, as well as strengthening Civil Defense monitoring, warning and response. Water that reaches the tap and the crops safely, and cities protected from drought and flood. [p. 52]
