Tourism: a vocation that pays off
what Brazil has in abundance and makes too little use of
Proposes promoting Brazil as a destination and the vocations of each region, building on the infrastructure planned in the program and the security actions of Brazil without Fear.
What the program says
In tourism, Brazil has a natural vocation and one of its greatest riches: beaches, forests, historical and cultural heritage, festivals and beauty that the whole world wants to see. Even so, we take advantage of only a fraction of that potential. All the infrastructure that this plan already provides for, from airports and highways to railways, such as the “Trem do Nordeste” (“Northeast Train”), works in favor of tourism: these are the routes that take visitors further, more easily and at lower cost. We will add to this the promotion of Brazil as a destination and the enhancement of each region’s vocations, so that tourism generates income and jobs, especially in inland towns and in the regions that most need opportunity. But none of this holds up without security. A country that wants to welcome tourists, Brazilian and foreign, needs to be a safe country, because no one visits, invests in or returns to a place where they do not feel protected. That is why the actions of Brazil without Fear, a priority of this plan, are also the basis for tourism to flourish: security and tourism go hand in hand. [p. 59, 60]
In plain language
The text states that the country takes advantage of only a fraction of its tourism potential and cites the infrastructure provided for in the plan, from airports and highways to railways such as the Trem do Nordeste, as support for tourism. It proposes the promotion of Brazil as a destination and the enhancement of each region’s vocations, to generate income and jobs, especially inland and in the regions with fewer opportunities. It also states that tourism depends on security and presents the actions of Brazil without Fear as the basis for the sector.
